Eating Raw Doesn't Mean 100%

A couple of weeks ago I spoke at the Green Living Show. The subject of my presentation was Raw Food and Weight Loss. One of the sub-categories I addressed was the ratio of how much raw makes you 'raw' and whether it's necessary to be 100% raw to be genuine.

My presentation at the Green Living Show

Apparently we need to see or read something about seven times before remembering it. So for the benefit of all you folk out there who keep on 'shoulding' yourselves, here we go again.

Christine's Guidelines
#1 You do not have to eat raw food 100% to be raw or to improve your health.
#2 Leave the ratios/dogma/rules behind and just start.
#3 The details will sort themselves as you go.
#4 If you fall off the wagon, dust yourself off and climb up again. And again.
#5 - #infinity (ok, I'll write a book soon).

Actually, I believe that it could encourage others to go more raw and make some positive changes without the pressure of a complete change. Better some good changes than none at all. Besides, what you or I are practicing today in eating may not be where we are in the future – hopefully you and I will improve but we need to leave it to each other to make these decisions for ourselves. Encouragement without judgement.

It doesn’t have to be ‘all or nothing’ and it puzzles me as to why some people think this way. It could be a personality thing but it can make food and life choices too hard. Just because I nibble on a biscuit at morning tea doesn’t mean there’s no point in being mostly raw for the rest of the day.  In the same way that speaking sharply to my husband or children means that I do it all day because “I’ve ruined it now anyway”.

My raw food goal is to be around 70 – 80% raw. Just to be clear, please don’t think that the remaining 20 -30% is made up of hot chips, cakes, caffeine and chocolate. If I am choosing something cooked then I am trying to make that portion ‘count’. For example I might choose gluten free bread instead of wheat, wedges rather than hot chips, brown rice and not white, sushi instead of a pie.

Food should be a pleasure and not just a necessary activity. Take the pressure off and stop ‘should-ing’ yourself. Make good changes a little bit at a time and be happy that you’re doing the best you can for now.

Dips, Dressings and Sauces

I am super excited to present my latest eBook: Dips Dressings and Sauces; ten recipes, all raw, no guilt.

I say 'no guilt' because we've had it banged into us to go easy on the dressing, they're full of fats and sugar and you will get fat, blah, blah. Flooding your salads with delicious dressing (rather than a tasty but generous drizzle) no matter how raw and healthy will not do your weight any favours BUT...here's the good news...all ingredients are so good for you. There are no fillers, transfats, sugar, preservatives, colour, etc, etc. Just nuts, olive oil, honey or dates for sweetener, beautiful fruits and vegetables and many other nutritious goodies.

For my fellow sweet-toothed raw foodies, there are three different types of Chocolate Sauces or Dips.

Truly an eBook for everyone who uses dressings. If your fussy child (young or 'old') doesn't like at least one...then I'll be very, very surprised. All these recipes have been tried on my family, friends and clients, and all had some they liked. Can't please everyone all the time, huh?

It is just NZ$10 and you can find it here:

Just to make it quite clear Dips, Dressings and Sauces is an eBook which means you download, print off and bind or put in folder. It is not a hard copy/published book; well, not yet, anyway.

This weekend I am speaking (4pm) at the Green Living Show at the Alexandra Park Function Centre, Auckland. Naturally, I am speaking about Raw Food and how to get more of it in your life. Specifically, I'm using the route of weight loss since that seems to be the major issue on womens' minds (and probably a few men, too).

It will be a good introduction for those unfamiliar with the idea. For those already convinced and practicing, bring a friend or two and let them hear it from someone else (me). I will be demonstrating and all can be sampled. A question and answer time will feature along with a prize draw.

Encouraging smiles allowed, loud cheering is not and autographs will be signed (dreamer!).

Free entry to show, seminars and workshops. Lots of booths with all things eco-friendly for your home and business. Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May.

Apologies for my silence for the past two weeks. Our internet provider messed things up nicely and it's only just come back on today. Sigh. No doubt you can imagine the dark, thunderous mutterings emanating from our house. Our poor son was suffering withdrawl symptoms and missed FaceBook dreadfully. How sad.
